A discussion about Andrei Sacharov

September 06, 2023

On 13 September, together with the National Library of the Czech Republic - Slavic Library and Memorial ČR, we have prepared a talk dedicated to the Russian nuclear physicist, dissident and Nobel Peace Prize winner Andrei Sakharov.

The event entitled "KGB against Andrei Sakharov: wiretapping - surveillance - slander - isolation" will take place on Wednesday 13 September 2023 at 5:00 pm in the meeting room of the National Library of the Czech Republic (Klementinum 190, Prague 1).

Andrei Sakharov was involved in the development of the atomic and hydrogen bombs and became a prominent human rights activist and agent of change in the USSR during the Perestroika period. The discussion at Klementinum in Prague will take place on the occasion of the publication of the book "Object of Surveillance. KGB against Andrei Sakharov". Despite the bleak situation this year, the book was published in Moscow thanks to the Memorial Association. The discussion will be attended by one of the authors, Boris Belenkin, a historian and director of the library of the Russian Memorial Association, and Jan Urban, a Czech journalist and former dissident who met Andrei Sakharov personally in Moscow in the late 1980s. Interpretation will be provided.

The event can also be found on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/688515873328712.
