March 18, 2017
On Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the age of 72, Professor Mečislav Borák, the largest Czech expert on the topic of repression against Czechs and Czechoslovak citizens in the USSR, died.
It is mainly thanks to him that today we know a large part of this tragic historical chapter. Among victims of Soviet repressions were estimated 25 thousand Czechoslovaks. Mecislav Borak began his research as one of the first in the 1990s, since he has gone through many archives in Russia and Ukraine, almost manually handled hundreds of thousands of records in Memorial's databases, and began to create a database of Czech victims.
