We are publishing the unknown story of a Czech woman imprisoned in the Gulag
February 28, 2024 | Czech memory of the Gulag
She was given metal by Stalin, then her husband was executed, her son (who later became a Soviet national artist) was taken away, and she was finally locked up in a gulag in Soviet Kazakhstan. Evgenia Věsnik (née Němečková) was one of the four Czech prisoners of the brutal women's camp in Akmolinsk. We managed to document her story in detail thanks to the research during our expedition in Kazakhstan. And also with the help of some incredible coincidences. We publish the whole story in our virtual museum: Evgenia Věsnik-Němečková - Family at the crossroads of the gulag and the Gestapo
