Semyon Vilensky, a tireless popularizer and publisher of Gulag literature, died

April 25, 2016 | Current Russia and Memorial

V sobotu 23. dubna v Moskvě zemřel spisovatel a básník Semjon Vilenskij, předseda sdružení Vozvraščenije a neúnavný vydavatel literatury o stalinských pracovních lágrech, který dlouhodobě podporoval udržování historického vědomí hrůz Gulagu. Bylo mu 88 let. Osm let strávil v gulagu na Kolymě a celý život pak zasvětil připomínání temné sovětské historie.

Zorganizoval několik konferencí o odboji v Gulagu, vydal přes stovku knih a objevil řadu skvělých „lágrových“ spisovatelů (u nás vyšly díky Lukáši Babkovi a Radce Bzonkové-Rubilině antologie „Jen jeden osud“ (Academia, 2009) a „Echo Gulagu“ (ÚSTR, Slovanská knihovna a Vozvraščenie, 2013). V současnosti chystá nakladatelství Academia české vydání další knihy, která vyšla díky péči Semjona Vilenského – vzpomínky české vězeňkyně Gulagu Helly Frischerové.

V září 2010 navštívil Semjon Vilenskij Českou republiku, kde zahájil výstavu „Paměť Gulagu“ věnovanou činnosti sdružení Vozvraščenie a zúčastnil se besedy s veřejností. Fotografie z jeho návštěvy jsou ke shlédnutí zde. Vyšel s ním také obsáhlý rozhovor v časopise Paměť a dějiny.
