Exhibitions

At our exhibitions, you will get to know both the results of Gulag.cz's activities (expeditions, archival research) and a broader view of the topic of Soviet repression with its spillover into the present, when Putin's regime is once again imprisoning its opponents. Some exhibitions are compact and consist of a few exhibition panels, others are more extensive including works of art and other exhibits. Most exhibitions are traveling.

Heroes in the Shadow of the Urals (2024)

They ended up in Soviet camps for protesting against the occupation of Czechoslovakia in August 1968.

In cooperation with the virtual museum Perm-36, we have compiled the almost unknown stories of prisoners of the Perm camps who were convicted in the Soviet Union for their opposition to the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops. In the 1970s and 1980s, there were several camps for political prisoners near the Russian city of Perm in the Urals. They held opponents of the Soviet regime, often dissidents from Ukraine, the Baltics, but also from Russia. Among them were at least 19 people who lost their freedom also because of protests against the occupation of Czechoslovakia.

We presented the exhibition at the NeverMore 68 event at the Prague Exhibition Grounds on August 21, 2024. More information HERE.

Andrei Sakharov — man of the epoch (2021 - until now)

The year 2021 was considered the year of Andrei Sakharov in the liberal part of Russian society. He was born on May 21, 1921, and his life still fascinates and inspires many today - from a nuclear physicist who participated in the development of the atomic and hydrogen bomb, he gradually became an important Soviet human rights activist, a political prisoner and a driver of social change in the USSR during the Perestroika period. His legacy is still alive today and extremely relevant in today's wartime Russia, which is once again heading for dictatorship. On the occasion of the centenary of Andrei Sakharov's birth, we organized an exhibition and conference dedicated to Andrei Sakharov in the Czech Senate together with the Memorial association and other partners.

The exhibition is traveling and since then it has also been exhibited in Brno in Kryt 10-Z (2021), in Olomouc at the Faculty of Arts of Palacky University (2022) and in Prague as part of the Never More 1968 festival (2023).
