Writing letters in support of the unjustly imprisoned ended the exhibition Putin's Cage

On the last day of the exhibition on 28 October 2024 in the Valdštejnská zahrada in Prague we supported the people unjustly imprisoned by the Russian regime through letters. The event was organized by Gulag.cz and Memorial ČR.

Many of the men and women in Russian prisons may not survive their stay in good health, who knows if they even... Often the only light of hope that can be shed behind prison walls is your letters.
"A letter is like a breath of fresh air for me. First of all, it's the only connection to the outside world. Secondly, it's a great support. You can't give up when you know so many people believe you're right." (Olga Bendas)

  • A 16-year-old boy disagreed with his country's policies and was sentenced to 5 years in a juvenile detention centre where he is subjected to psychological and physical violence.
  • A 68-year-old historian who "gave names back" to thousands of victims of Stalin's terror is now sentenced to 15 years in prison.
  • A 19-year-old medical student who wanted to help people in war zones is now being held in detention for her anti-war stance...

These are just a fraction of the stories covered in our Putin's cage exhibition, and an even smaller fraction of those unjustly held in Russian prisons. Visitors to the Wallenstein Garden on the day of the national holiday could write a letter of support to them and many others.

The event took place on 28 October 2024 from 14:00 to 16:00 in the Wallenstein Garden (sala terrena).
