This April, the Gulag.cz expedition brought a unique discovery of the remains of a labor camp in the Uzbek desert. We will be talking not only about the new discoveries at a special discussion on 25 May 2026 at 7:30 PM at the Vzlet cultural center in Prague-Vršovice. The conversation with Štěpán Černoušek will be moderated by Ondřej Cihlář from the Vosto5 theatre.
How does Stalin's plan to build a never-completed canal relate to the drying up of the Aral Sea? What is the memory of the USSR like in today's Turkmenistan, and is it really "a second North Korea"? Who are the Karakalpaks, and what is life like in Uzbekistan's Karakalpakstan? And what else does the diverse region of Central Asia still hold in store?
